Kasuri Lotus Coaster
Kasuri Lotus Coaster
The Story
These handwoven lotus-shaped tea coasters are made from antique Kasuri cloth.
Kasuri is a complex dyeing technique that became popular in the Edo period. After carefully considering the patterns that they wanted to achieve, Kasuri makers dyed their thread in advance, creating a pattern directly onto the thread. They then wove the thread, revealing the pattern that was dyed into them.
This technique was so labor intensive that it fell out of favor, and is now difficult to find. This cloth was repurposed by artist Hiromi Kasukabe to make these beautiful one-of-a-kind coasters.

Bringing you Japan's rarest & finest teas
-
Family farms & small producers
We seek out teas from small farms, family farms, and microlots that would otherwise not be seen outside of Japan. We find growers and teas that we love, and bring them back to share with you.
-
Farm to cup
Our teas are direct-sourced from the growers and producers we meet on our travels. By buying directly from our producers, we can both lower the cost to you as well as pay more to them - we hope everyone can benefit.

Generational, inspirational
